Is it already time for another Samsung Unpacked event? You better believe it. Samsung has officially announced it will be holding its next big launch on July 9, where we’re likely to see the debut of its latest Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold foldable Android phones.
Unlike in previous years—when Samsung unveiled its foldable devices in Paris and Seoul—this iteration will take place in Brooklyn, New York, commencing at 10:00 a.m. ET / 7:00 a.m. PT. Gizmodo will provide live on-site coverage, and a live stream will be available via Samsung’s YouTube channel and its official website.

Samsung has yet to disclose specific details about the upcoming launch, aside from the teaser image above, the video below, and a single statement shared via email: “With AI leading the way, Galaxy devices are evolving from reactionary smartphones to anticipatory smart companions – transforming how we communicate, create, and connect.” While the information is limited, the message suggests a focus on more proactive, agent-like AI capabilities—the kind that act on behalf of the user. This approach appears to echo Apple’s vision for its context-aware, AI-powered Siri, which was announced but has reportedly been delayed until next year
Ultra Versions of the Z Flip and Z Fold?
While Samsung hasn’t officially revealed its upcoming foldables, that doesn’t mean the tech world is in the dark. As is often the case in the age of internet leaks, key details about the new Galaxy Z devices have already surfaced, offering a glimpse into what Samsung may unveil at its upcoming Unpacked event.
At the end of Samsung’s teaser video, the phrase “Ultra unfolds” briefly flashes across the screen—a strong hint that the company is preparing to introduce an “Ultra” version of its foldable lineup. This would align with Samsung’s existing Galaxy S-series Ultra branding, which typically denotes the highest-tier models with the most advanced features available.
If the branding holds true, the Galaxy Z Flip Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold Ultra—or possibly a new Galaxy Z Ultra altogether—are expected to push the boundaries in every category: from display quality and hinge durability, to camera systems, processing power, and battery performance. In short, this could be Samsung’s most premium foldable yet.
The company itself has hinted at this direction. In a recent post on its U.S. Newsroom, Samsung stated:
“For years, Samsung has listened to users asking for bigger screens, better cameras, and new ways to connect and create. The demand is clear — an Ultra experience that goes beyond a simple list of upgraded features in a smaller and more portable form factor.”
“With industry-leading hardware, cutting-edge performance and seamless AI integration optimized for the foldable format, it’s what users have come to expect from Galaxy Ultra.”
“And when it unfolds, it transforms—into a more immersive entertainment hub, a spacious workspace, or a multitasking powerhouse, now enhanced by powerful Galaxy AI features designed specifically for the foldable form.”
These remarks strongly suggest that Samsung is not merely iterating on past designs, but introducing a new class of foldables—one that blends top-tier hardware with purpose-built AI enhancements, positioning the device as both a premium productivity tool and a versatile entertainment platform.
It remains to be seen whether Samsung will rebrand the expected Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7 as “Ultra” models, or if the company is preparing to introduce an entirely new flagship tier alongside its standard foldable lineup. Either way, expectations are high—and if Samsung delivers on the “Ultra” promise, it could mark a significant leap forward for the foldable category.
Leaked images indicate that Samsung’s upcoming foldables may feature a thinner design than the current Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6. Samsung’s own teaser video reinforces this, showing two ultra-slim halves separating, likely hinting at a more compact form factor.
For the new Z Flip, rumors suggest the cover screen could extend edge to edge, much like the design seen in Motorola’s latest Razr foldables. A larger, full-width cover display would not only enhance the visual appeal but also improve functionality—allowing more apps to run directly on the outer screen without the need to open the phone.
As for the upcoming Z Fold, leaked CAD renders reveal a potential thickness of just 9mm when closed and 4.54mm when unfolded. If accurate, this would make the Z Fold impressively slim—approaching the thickness of standard, non-folding smartphones when closed, a notable achievement for foldable hardware.
We won’t have to wait long for confirmation—Samsung’s Unpacked event is just weeks away. Stay tuned for the official reveal.
