DJI’s Osmo Nano: A Pin-Sized Magnetic Action Camera That Sticks Anywhere
Action cameras have finally shrunk to the point where you can clip them on your clothes, wear them on your body, or mount them almost anywhere without wrestling with bulky harnesses or awkward rigs. DJI’s latest gadget, the Osmo Nano, takes that idea to the extreme. Borrowing inspiration from Insta360’s wearable Go series, the drone-maker has packed pro-level imaging features into a device so small it looks more like a spy cam than a traditional action camera.
The Osmo Nano is essentially a tiny magnetic pod that snaps onto a dock with a screen, called the Multifunctional Vision Dock. You can rotate the pod forward or backward, making it versatile for both selfie-style vlogging and first-person POV footage. The real magic, however, lies in its magnetic mounting system: as long as you’ve got another magnet or a ferromagnetic surface nearby, the Osmo Nano can be slapped almost anywhere—on your bike, your fridge, or even your pet’s collar (though good luck getting the footage steady).
Powerful Specs in a Tiny Frame
Despite weighing just 52 grams and measuring 55mm, the Osmo Nano isn’t just a novelty camera. It houses a 1/1.3-inch sensor—slightly bigger than Insta360’s Go Ultra sensor—allowing it to shoot 4K video at up to 120 fps with a 143-degree wide-angle field of view. DJI also included 13.5 stops of dynamic range, 10-bit color depth, and D-Log M support, giving creators more flexibility in post-production.
It doesn’t stop there. The Nano features built-in storage, expandable microSD support, and seamless pairing with DJI’s wireless mics, like the DJI Mic 3, without needing a separate receiver. Gesture controls are also on board: nod your head to start recording, tap the top of the pod, or just use the physical button for more traditional control.
Battery Life and Charging
Battery life will depend heavily on your shooting mode. At 1080p/24fps, DJI claims up to 200 minutes of recording time. Push it to 4K/30fps, and you’re looking at about 55–60 minutes before it needs a recharge. Luckily, fast charging is supported—reaching 80% in just 20 minutes—so creators can get back to filming quickly.
Why It’s Different From Insta360
At first glance, the Osmo Nano looks like DJI’s answer to Insta360’s Go Ultra. But the Nano goes a step further: higher frame rates at 4K, more storage options, better color accuracy, and direct compatibility with DJI’s growing ecosystem of accessories. That ecosystem integration could be the deciding factor for creators already using DJI drones, gimbals, or microphones.
The Catch: No U.S. Release
As impressive as it is, U.S. buyers are once again left out. Due to ongoing restrictions, DJI won’t be officially selling the Osmo Nano in the States—at least not at launch. That’s frustrating, especially since the camera debuts at a relatively competitive $300 with 64GB of storage on Amazon in international markets. For now, creators in Europe and Asia get first dibs, while U.S. users will have to rely on imports or settle for alternatives like Insta360’s Go Ultra.
Still, the Osmo Nano signals where the action cam market is headed: smaller, smarter, and more wearable than ever before. Whether strapped to your shirt, stuck on your helmet, or mounted somewhere unexpected, DJI’s magnetic mini-cam is built to capture life from new perspectives.
